Clinics

The nurses, healthcare assistant, health visitors and district nurses all help run various clinics detailed here, with the district nurses working mainly out in the community. There is also access to a phlebotomist and midwife, along with a treatment room, chiropody and physiotherapy department.

Meadowbank Health Centre also has its own pharmacy on site.

Family Planning

pregnant1 Family planning advice and pre-pregnancy counselling is available from any doctor. Coil fitting can be arranged for those women who wish this via Dr Newlands.

The practice nurse performs smears, Depo-Provera injections and routine contraceptive pill checks.

Ante Natal Checks

Pregnant patients are cared for routinely within the Health Centre by the visiting Poppy Team of midwives from Forth Valley Royal Infirmary as part of a shared care plan with the practice. Six weeks post natal the patient is advised to attend for a routine check by a doctor.

Baby Clinic

These are run by our practice nurses and a GP on a Thursday afternoon and occasionally with our health visitors. Developmental check-ups and immunisations are done at these clinics along with your baby being weighed and advice given on minor aliments.

Minor Surgery

The treatment of warts, verrucae and skin tags can be carried out in this clinic after an initial consultation with a doctor.

Joint Injections

Steroid injections for the treatment of inflammatory joint conditions can be arranged where necessary with Dr Herron.

Chronic Disease Management Clinics

These are run by the practice nurses with the assistance of our healthcare assistant. They cover chronic diseases which require regular monitoring such as diabetes, asthma and respiratory problems, heart problems, high blood pressure, epilepsy and thyroid disorders. Patients are contacted at regular intervals (usually yearly), usually by letter, and invited to attend for a review of their condition. For example, those with diabetes will first attend the healthcare assistant to have bloods and a basic health check, then be seen by a practice nurse two weeks later for the results. In general we try to ask you to attend for a yearly check on your birth month - thus if you were born in October you should aim to get annual review every October.

Smoking Cessation

Support clinics are currently available within the Health Centre. These occur most monday nights from 5:30 pm, no appointment is necessary.

Medical Certificates

Patients are responsible for self certification via their employer for the first 7 days of absence from work, following which medical certificates (for social security or statutory sick pay) can be obtained after consultation with a doctor.

Private/Non NHS Services

Certain services we can provide are not covered by the NHS. In these cases you will be advised of the reasonable charge that will be made. Example fees can be found at reception. Examples of non NHS services are:

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

FLU CLINIC

We will offer 'catch up' appointments for those who have missed our clinic dates.

If a patient books an appointment online, but is NOT entitled to receive a vaccination, the Practice will contact them and cancel the appointment if there is no need to vaccinate.

Below is a list of the criteria you must come under to receive a vaccination.

All patients aged 65 years and over
Chronic respiratory disease aged six months or older	Asthma that requires continuous or repeated use of inhaled or systemic steroids or with previous exacerbations requiring hospital admission. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including chronic bronchitis and emphysema; bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung fibrosis, pneumoconiosis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Children who have previously been admitted to hospital for lower respiratory tract disease.
Chronic heart disease aged six months or older	Congenital heart disease, hypertension with cardiac complications, chronic heart failure, individuals requiring regular medication and/or follow-up for ischaemic heart disease.
Chronic kidney disease aged six months or older	Chronic kidney disease at stage 3, 4 or 5, chronic kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome, kidney transplantation.
Chronic liver disease aged six months or older	Cirrhosis, biliary artesia, chronic hepatitis
Chronic neurological disease aged six months or older	Stroke, transient ischaemic attack (TIA). Conditions in which respiratory function may be compromised, due to neurological disease (e.g. polio syndrome sufferers). Clinicians should consider on an individual basis the clinical needs of patients including individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and related or similar conditions; or hereditary and degenerative disease of the nervous system or muscles; or severe neurological disability.
Diabetes aged six months or older	Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes requiring insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs, diet controlled diabetes.
Immunosuppression aged six months or older	Immunosuppression due to disease or treatment. Patients undergoing chemotherapy leading to immunosuppression. Asplenia or splenic dysfunction, HIV infection at all stages. Individuals treated with or likely to be treated with systemic steroids for more than a month at a dose equivalent to prednisolone at 20mg or more per day (any age) or for children under 20kg a dose of 1mg or more per kg per day. It is difficult to define at what level of immuno suppression a patient could be considered to be at a greater risk of the serious consequences of flu and should be offered flu vaccination. This decision is best made on an individual basis and left to the patient’s clinician. Some immunocompromised patients may have a suboptimal immunological response to the vaccine. Consideration should also be given to the vaccination of household contacts of immunocompromised individuals, i.e. individuals who expect to share living accommodation on most days over the winter and therefore for whom continuing close contact is unavoidable. This may include carers (see below).
Pregnant women	Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy (first, second or third trimesters).
Those living in long-stay residential care homes or other long-stay care facilities where rapid spread is likely to follow introduction of infection and cause high morbidity and mortality	Does not include prisons, young offender institutions, university halls of residence etc.
Unpaid Carers and young carers	Someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability. A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 carrying out significant caring tasks and assuming a level of responsibility for another person, which would normally be taken by an adult.

Self Referrals to Physiotherapy

If you feel you need to see a physio, you can now complete a self referral form, available at our reception desk.

All you need to do is complete the form and hand it back to our reception desk. They will then pass it to the physio department who will contact you regarding an appointment. Physio currently have around 6-10 week waiting list.

By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.
Change of personal details
Please inform the reception staff if you change your personal details such as name, address, telephone number or email address, so that your records can be amended.
If your address falls outwith the practice area you will be required to register with another doctor in the new area.
